Oberlin Tote Roundup!

When we released our refreshed Oberlin Tote pattern last month, along with our new lining and zipper closure expansions, we reached out to a handful of our favorite makers and asked them to give the Oberlin a try! Each of them documented their making process in blog posts and photos, along with their finished bags (which turned out amazing!). We've collected these posts here, so you can soak in some tips and bag making inspiration from these awesome makers. If their stories inspire you to give the Oberlin a try yourself, click here to get started!

"Klum House has really perfected bag making. The instructions lovingly walk you through each step and the maker kits have everything you need. Really though, you can unroll your tube of supplies and have yourself a beautiful, functional, and high quality bag in a few hours."

“Say ‘hello’ to my new travel bag, my Klum House Oberlin Tote! I love the Maywood Totepack I sewed with another Klum House kit, so when Ellie asked me if I’d be interested in trying out the revised Oberlin Tote pattern and kit, I didn’t hesitate to say ‘yes.’ The Oberlin came together really quickly, even though I added both a lining and a zipper.”

"Some amazing style points include even making markings for the fold lines and punch holes on the *pre cut* fabric so it makes your life significantly easier. Even the zipper expansions has the perfect leather pulls and notions to make every part of this bag look professional. Everything feels luxe, the waxed cotton, the fun print from FIGO fabrics, the buttery leather, and the beautiful hardware; it was truly such a joy to work with throughout the assembly process. From start to finish, this project was so immensely satisfying due to the ease of not having to cut everything out and already having all the supplies at my fingertips.”

"I don’t even want to call this a tote, because it is much more elevated than that. It’s an accessory, and something I will build entire fall outfits around...The Klum House Oberlin maker kit includes high-quality pieces which are otherwise difficult to source without buying a ridiculous quantity. Plus all the cutting and notching is done for you! I’ve never had that VIP experience before, but let me say I could get used to that!"

"This bag was a breeze to make. And a pleasant sew! The kit arrived all snugly rolled into a stylish mailing tube. Opening said tube revealed all the materials and fixtures to make the whole bag: cut pieces of notched waxed cotton, the contrast fabric from FIGO (again, notched), zippers, leather pulls and straps, a whole bunch of rivets….All I needed was my machine, a hammer (for the rivets), and my skills."

"I love how cute this bag came out, but I like using it even more–I don’t have a lot of totes with this much room inside of it and the outside pockets are AWESOME, easily my favorite design feature. Because they are on the outside they are super accessible but not super deep, so I can find what I am looking for very easily, and best of all there are 4 of them! Perfect for all the quick things I need to grab from my bag, like chapstick, my phone or a shopping list, without having to reach deep down inside the bigger part of the bag to fish them out."
