Sewing got you frustrated? Here's what to do.

Don't be Hard on Yourself.

Learning to make something is a process. It's either going to sew together the way you planned it— or it doesn’t (which is often the case!) When it's the latter, we tend to get frustrated. We're here to tell you: Don’t be too hard on yourself. Sewing can be fun & easy! Below, we've broken down some of the ways you can keep yourself from getting overwhelmed when making a new project.

Keep it Simple to Finish it!

If you’re an ambitious person, humble yourself and start with something that’s almost too simple for you to make. Warm up, get used to it, then start with something harder.

The most satisfying thing is a finished project that you can use in your everyday life or gift to someone special. The biggest thing that can discourage you is if you go for a really ambitious project and get in way over your head— often that leads to spending a lot of time sewing frustrated & confused about what to do next.

Start slow. What’s the worst that can happen? If you finish sooner than you thought, make it again or choose something harder next time. When you finish a project that you made with your own two hands, even if it’s easy, the satisfaction is priceless.

Get Educated!

When learning to sew, the best thing to do is to take a class. There, you learn priceless tips & tricks that would've taken much longer to figure out on your own. The ah-ha moments & breakthroughs that can happen while learning in a guided way can lead to so much more enjoyment during the making process. If you can’t make it to a class in person, we have an amazing Sewing 101 + Custom Bag online class— and it's only $0.99! The Sewing 101 part of includes a full breakdown of how the machine works— from threading to winding the bobbin to how tension and timing works. The Custom Leather & Canvas Tote Bag part of class breaks down how to pattern, cut, design, and make a leather & canvas tote bag — complete with an inside zipper pocket!

And lastly, some secrets to success:

Start where you are.
Use what you have.
Do what you can.
Enjoy the process.

We believe in you.
