Stay Fresh

An Artist Talk by Erik Otto

Join us for an evening with mixed-media artist Erik Otto, whose beautiful, colorful paintings and murals are influenced by his life in Mexico City and the US. Erik will be speaking about his work and creative process, as well as offering insight into his life as a working artist. He will talk about his nomadic lifestyle, living and working in Mexico City where he participated in a life-changing artist residency, securing a VSCO grant which led to a highly successful pop-up event in San Francisco, and his current art/life projects.

Erik has intentionally developed habits in his life and work, which sometimes cause discomfort or resistance but ultimately lead to inspiration, opportunities, and deeper understanding. He has found that any kind of travel, even if its simply moving your desk to the other side of your workspace, generates new ideas, new perspectives, and work that constantly feels fresh and inspired.

BIO:

Erik Otto is a mixed-media artist working professionally in the creative disciplines of painting, sculpture, and site-specific installation for over ten years. Erik has exhibited internationally in New York City, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Washington DC, and internationally in Vancouver, Mexico City, and Berlin. He was selected for the SF Recology Artist-in-Residence Program, received the VSCO Artist Initiative Grant, and produced work for YBCA Bay Area Now 7. His work is currently included in the private collections of the Grand Hyatt, Microsoft, LinkedIn, One Medical Group, and Uber.

An avid cyclist, explorer of the outdoor world, and firm believer of taking risks, he once self-initiated and self-funded a six-month-long artist residency in the middle of Mexico City that culminated in a pop-up exhibition in an abandoned building just prior to its demolition.

Erik grew up in the South Bay Area, lived in San Francisco for 12 years, and is now based in Brooklyn, NY.

This is a free event, and all are welcome to attend.
