Level 2 Sewing Class: Some prior sewing experience needed.

Learn to sew The Oberlin Market Tote Bag in this 5.5 hour sewing workshop. Not only will you go home with a tote that you made start-to-finish with your own two hands, you will also learn indispensable bag sewing techniques for handling heavy-weight fabric on a home sewing machine. This workshop comes with a pattern that will allow you to create this tote as many times as you wish!

Skills Learned

Sewing with heavy-weight fabrics such as 8.25oz waxed canvas, working with hardware, sewing zippers, constructing an inside hanging pocket, french seams, attaching a magnetic snap, sewing through multiple layers of thick fabric

Bringing Your Own Fabric?

All students get a 10% off discount at Bolt Fabric Boutique on materials purchased for class. Please mention you are attending a class at Klum House Workshop.

Fabric Specifications

1 yard medium-heavy weight canvas or denim for main body piece and extra reinforced base layer. *Yardage based on a standard 45" bolt.

1/3 yard of medium-weight linen, cotton, Japanese cotton, quilting cotton, denim, canvas, hemp/cotton blend or linen/cotton blend fabric. If you have a fabric on hand and are not sure whether it will work for the project, please email us and ask!

Please note: If you are bringing your own fabric, we ask that you cut your fabric and bring it to class with you. You will be emailed a pdf of the pattern and instructions before the day of class. Fear not! If you would like guidance on cutting, please make arrangements with us to arrive 30-45 minutes early to class to cut your fabric.
