Join Thea Gahr, printmaker and member of Justseeds for an immersive & fun day of printing your own textiles! Choose to attend only one workshop or both for a $10 savings.

Block Printing 101

During this intro class, students will design & print their own tea towel or tote bag. We’ll cover basic block printing techniques such as design, carving, tools, and inking. Class taught by Thea Gahr, printmaker and member of Justseeds.

Block Printing 102

Take your printing skills to the next level as you explore more in-depth fabric printing & design techniques!  Learn how to carve a design to create a pattern for printing yardage. Bring home a yard of fabric that is printed in your own design as well as the knowledge & skills to print many yards more!

No prior sewing experience needed

  • Carving a rubber stamp

  • Supplies: Drawing, carving & inking supplies are provided for use in class.

  • Maker Kit (Included in the price of class): A large 28" x 28" 100% cotton tea towel or a canvas tote bag as well as a rubber block to carve and keep to use again & again!

Level: Advanced Beginner/Beginner
Prior block printing experience is needed. Qualify for this class by either being a previous Block Printing 101 student or have practiced it on your own.

SKILLS LEARNED

  • Designing a printable image

  • Carving for repeat patterns

  • Registration techniques for overlaying color

  • Printing techniques for large areas

  • Maker Kit (Included in the price of class): One yard of cotton fabric as well as a rubber block to carve and keep to use again & again!

 

Thea is an amazing teacher & so enthusiastic! She was very knowledgable (I could tell she had many years of printing under her belt). I also enjoyed that she wove concepts about the role of printing-making & social change throughout the class. It was a joy to learn from her!

We are located inside the Hub Building hallway corridor (we do not have a sidewalk storefront). Enter through the Hub building door on N Williams with the Klum House sign above it. Walk down the hall & take a left. You'll see the Klum House sign hanging above our door.

*Please note: We have street parking, so please arrive a few minutes early to allow ample time to park.

Policy

Review our cancellation & rebook policy:

  • We require at least 7 days notice prior to the start of class to cancel for a full refund.

  • We require at least 48 hours notice prior to the start of class to rebook for a later class.

  • Full payment for class is due at time of sign up in order to secure your spot in class.

  • No shows forfeit any refund or rebook.

  • If Klum House cancels a class that you registered for, you are entitled to either a cash refund or a rebook to a later class.

  • If you transfer your registration to another class with a higher price, you are subject to pay the difference.
