Level 1 Sewing: No prior sewing experience is needed, but it is suggested.

During this intro to shibori + sewing series, students will have the option to hand-dye their shibori idigo fabric the day before and sew it up into a lined zipper pouch the next day. We will cover shibori indigo dyeing techniques (optional) and sewing techniques. This workshop series has the option to take either part as a stand-alone workshop or take both workshops for a discount!

This intro to Shibori dyeing workshop is designed to make learning how to dye your own fabric fun & easy! Shibori is a Japanese technique of binding, stitching, and clamping fabric to create pattern when indigo dye is applied. No experience is necessary, just come ready to learn and get your hands dirty (or blue)! Join Ellie in this hands-on class where you will learn the basics of this unique method of dyeing fabric.

Day 2:  Intro to Sewing Shibori Zipper Pouch - $50 + $10-$15 Materials

Sunday, July 31st, 1-4pm

During this workshop Ellie Lum will lead you in using your hand-dyed shibori fabric to construct your very own lined zipper pouch with leather zipper pull tab! You will learn how to sew zippers, insert a liner, and use quick-set metal rivets. Leave with a beautiful shibori zipper pouch that you made with your own two hands!

Sewing Skills Learned

- Machine basics such as threading the machine, winding a bobbin, and how to handle the machine

- How to sew zippers

- How to insert a liner into a zipper pouch
