How It Works.
We invite you to make alongside working artists and creators and participate in Portland’s vibrant maker movement. We work together to inspire each other and YOU to create. It's a synergy of craft based businesses functioning alongside creative arts education.
Step 1: Qualify.
Qualify for the program by taking an intro to sewing class or a private lesson.
Step 2: Schedule.
Rent time in our studio on our machines with a sewing mentor to work alongside you.
The Sewing Studio.
Work in our studio.
Klum House Workshop serves as a collaborative sewing studio, where a small group of professional artists and makers share skills and make product for their creative businesses. We are excited to open up our collaborative sewing studio to you & future sewing students, because we also have a dedication to furthering the craft of sewing and sharing our skills to help aspiring designers and creators get their start.
Session includes use of machines & tools.
You will have access to 2 industrial sewing machines: 1 walking foot machines and 1 garment straight stitch (lockstitch) & our Singer Heavy Duty home sewing machines.
The studio includes a 8' x 6' cutting table & all the necessary sewing tools.
Bring your own thread and any specialty tools & materials you might need.

Hours of availability.

We got your back.
You will have a resident sewing mentor working alongside you to answer your questions and help you if you get stuck, break a needle, or forget how to thread the machine. You can go at your own pace, make your own stuff, but if you get stuck or have a question, there will be someone there to answer it for you & give you the necessary guidance to keep you going on your projects.
We are excited to build this kind of support into the model, because we know you all could really use this resource, and we want to make sure you get the most support you need to make your dreams come true!
the sewing mentors will not replace sewing instruction. They will be there working on their own projects, and be available to help you, but not to dedicate all their time instructing you. Please schedule a private lesson if you require a lot of support for your project.
Limited Space Available.
Limited to 10 active participants.
We are limiting the slots available for folks that can take advantage of ISEW Sessions to 10 active participants. The reason is that the space will primarily be used as a manufacturing facility and studio space for the sewing mentors.
We are excited to open it up to you & future sewing students, though, because we have a dedication to furthering the craft of sewing and sharing our skills to help aspiring designers and creators get their start.
