A Chicago screw is a metal fastener that's great for attaching leather straps to your bag. If you've made a Fremont Tote before, then you may already be acquainted with this handy tool. It's called a Chicago screw tool and it's designed to help you set (you guessed it!) Chicago screws.
In the case of the Fremont Tote, we use Chicago screws to attach the leather tabs at the top corners of the bag, where the cross body strap will clip on. In a pinch, it's possible to set a Chicago screw with just a flathead screwdriver, but for an extra strong set that will stand the test of time, this tool acts as a clamp, allowing you tighten the screw so much more than you could without it!
