This Intro To Bag Making workshop is designed to make learning how to sew a simple bag fun & easy -- no prior sewing experience necessary! This class is perfect for the cyclist who wants to learn how to sew while making function gear they can use on their bike. Cycling musettes are classically spotted during the Tour De France as feed bags, but this musette is designed to carry whatever essentials you need to tote around PDX. The musette features waxed canvas, metal snap closure with leather reinforcement, and an adjustable anti-sway sternum strap. Waxed canvas is a highly functional naturally water resistant material -- perfect for cycling in the Pacific Northwest. This tote is packable, so stow it when you need to & pull it out when you need simple portage on your bike.
During class you will learn the in’s & out’s of your sewing machine and complete a packable & utilitarian waxed canvas cycling musette with snap closure & a waist/sternum strap for anti-sway. We will go over machine basics such as threading the machine & bobbin (as well as trouble-shooting), industrial sewing techniques for the home sewer, cutting fabric, essential sewing tools, and how to install snaps using an industrial snap press. You will learn how to operate your sewing machine with confidence while you make a waxed canvas cycling musette bag. You will walk out with your very own cycling musette that YOU MADE from start-to-finish.
*We provide all materials and sewing machines -- just bring yourself!
